On Monday, Vemric Enterprises Ltd. participated in the Joint Oversight and Coordination Committee meeting for the Lwanda K’Otieno Mini Fish Processing Plant and Landing Site.
We are proud that two of our team members serve on this committee, reflecting our commitment to building a sustainable and transparent fisheries value chain in Siaya County.
The meeting went beyond oversight; it was an opportunity to address practical challenges and co-create solutions. Key issues discussed included:
Progress on operationalization of the facility under Vemric’s stewardship
Recruitment processes to ensure strong management and community representation
Electricity supply shortages affecting operations in the region
Inadequate raw materials from fisherfolk to meet processing needs; fisherfolk will be trained on batching production methods
Lack of cold chain systems across Siaya beaches; through our Norec collaboration, Siaya beaches will benefit from cold chain facilities later this year
Knowledge gaps in aquaculture among fisherfolk and BMUs
Opportunities for industrial attachments for aquaculture students in Siaya; a follow-up meeting with Rarieda Technical College was scheduled to begin absorbing students immediately
For Vemric, these discussions reinforced that operational success depends on collaboration – from county leadership to fisherfolk, from youth to technical institutions.
We remain committed to:
Strengthening partnerships with local communities
Investing in sustainable fisheries and aquaculture
Supporting smallholder fisherfolk through value addition and market linkages
Creating opportunities for learning and employment for Siaya’s youth
Together, we are building more than a facility. We are laying the foundation for a stronger, more resilient Blue Economy in Siaya County.
